Spring Snow && Geek Glasses

Hello petit sea turtles. It has been awhile, hasn't it?
Things have just gotten so busy, and this morning when I opened my eyes I saw my pink fairy calendar and realized it has been two whole weeks since I last wrote you! Oh my goodness! So I jumped out of bed and threw on a hoodie, and when I went to my window, expecting to see the budding greens of spring, I saw THIS!

video
What in heavens name? I do not know how, but we have ice everywhere and 3 whole inches of magical white snow everywhere... Just a few days ago it was 60 degrees fahrenheit!
So I put on my trusty purple scarf and went to play in the snow... I also spent my day reading the lovely words of Anais Nin and watching clips from old movies online...

"We are like sculptors, constantly carving out of others the image we long for, need, love or desire, often against reality, against their benefit, and always, in the end, a disappointment, because it does not fit them."-Anais Nin

The last two weeks have flown by fast with late night studying and cramming in homework, plus some awkward lessons in health class. Oh and bad news little ones: my 'him' does not like me as a valentine. -tear- I'm ok though, no worries. I also went to see 'Confessions of a Shopaholic,' which was extremely cheezy, but I loved Krysten Ritter's character of Suze. I wish I had pictures but I couldn't find any... Has anyone seen the movie and know who I'm talking about?

I also discovered JPG Magazine, and submitted two of my photographs for their upcoming issues. I was hoping and wondering if you cute kiddos would vote for me? You just make an account super quick and vote 'Yeah!'

2. http://jpgmag.com/photos/1499233 "Time for Tea"
Thanks kittens.

I also recieved the loveliest things in the mail this week... I reached into our little mailbox and discovered the most delightful of suprises! My mother's magazine, Ladies Home Journal, featured Ellen as their CoverGirl! I was very excited... And according to the article she has an original Andy Warhol painting in her home, called Tennis Shoes!!!!! Sooo jealous! I love Andy Warhol... I also got some new glasses! (They're fake... Shhh, our little secret.) They sort of remind me of Sarah Palin or Tina Fey, which is very good. I wore them with a pastel blue sweatshirt and flower-y scarf on Friday.

Made into polaroids with the help of Poladroid... The tiles behind them are my flickr favorites, and my desktop background. :]

Oh my goodness, I forgot the most amazing part of my week yet! I went shopping for some new shoes, since my black Chucks that I wear every day are so worn-out they are developing holes in them, and you can see my pink sparkly socks! No good. So I went to the store and was very disappointed to see they didn't have any basic black tennis shoes like my old ones... I was about to leave when I saw these amazing beauties sitting atop a display... Their hot pink canvas with minty green detailing, and the little glittery cupcakes with sparkling icing! OH MY GOSH. I ran over and grabbed the shoe and asked the lady if they had any more, and she said that was the last one, and I checked the size and saw it was my size!!!!!! I snatched them up and paid for them right away... I think it was definately FATE.

Ok, lets just LIST the reasons why these shoes are so amazing, shall we? 1. They incorporate ALL of my favorite colors--mint green, violet red, hot pink, pastel pink, glittery white, light blue.... Yummmmm. 2. They are legit Converse All Stars; classic Chucks. 3. Umm hello? There are CUPCAKES WITH SPARKLY ICING. 4. Did I mention they are my perfect size? Yeah...
Love at first sight...

Alright little zoo animals, thats all for now. I'll exit with a delightful photoshoot with Zooey Deschanel and Dear Diary Moments, as usual...

*Make an origami animal and somehow incorporate it into your outfit.
*Go an entire day pretending to be a character that you made up. Don't tell anyone, just act and dress as that person would.
*Turn an ordinary object into a piece of jewelry. A dream catcher, a paper doily, a tiny spoon or fork, etc.
*Kiss and hug as much as you can.
*Buy a goldfish and take pictures with it.
*Write me a letter. Email me for my address. :) drseussfanatic(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Happy Hearts Day, With Extra Pink Glitter!

Happy Valentine's Day, my sweetest loves. What are you little ones doing today? My afternoon consists of watching Juno, painting, listening to the Ditty Bops, and finishing up the zine. All of this while being single! Whoo! Here's what I've been up to...

Last Sunday I went to a couple of really awesome local vintage boutiques, and here's some pictures of all the lovely things I saw...
I think that's what I'd like to do someday... Own a little boutique somewhere selling vintage clothes, and artwork, and clothing I've made, and jewelry and little trinkets and books and treasures, and cupcakes... And I'd play the cutest music that ever was, and wear little dresses and tennishoes with grass stains on them, and braid my hair with ribbons and little twigs. Super cute, non? And my boyfriend and I would read each other little children's books and eat cotton candy behind the counter as I stitched on felt hearts to little mittens and scarves... -sigh-

I've also received some of the cutest things in the mail lately... This lovely pin that I ordered from one of my favorite artists, Anke Weckmann.
You can find her stuff at http://www.linotte.net/ or http://www.linotte.etsy.com/. Super super cute. I love it all, she is so talented. And then I also received a tiny grey house from the etsy shop Covetable Curiosities (http://www.covetablecuriosities.etsy.com/), and I decided it would supply some cute little pictures... :]
And the back, which is hollow... I think I'm going to put a tiny light inside and paint the house pink, and perhaps make it into a necklace...? Or just something pretty to sit out. I just loved the allure of it, so I snatched it up. You can get one too: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21002573. And the last little gift, my darling friend Taylor bought me these carnations, as our French Club is selling them... :] I filled my vintage Coca Cola bottle up with some water and carefully set them inside...

And DRUMROLL PLEASE! I just finished up the skirt I've been telling you about, and its up in the shop now! The Let Them Eat Cake HANDPAINTED Womens Size 8 Red Skirt!
As you can see from the title, its a Womens Size 8, painted with acrylics and heat-set, as to preserve the color and paint. Its super adorable and I'm hoping it will sell extremely fast! ;] Its actually my first time painting images onto clothing, I usually just paint the text. Its $27.00 and you can find it here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21037094
And in honor of Valentines Day, my etsy is having a special where with every item you buy, you get a FREE little girlie drawn in color on a doily and a tiny story to come with it, as well as a valentine and some candy bits! Story example: As Edie leans over the concession table she sneaks a quick finger-full of yellow icing off the pretty cake. She spent the evening with her dearest friend, watching boxed sets of Ellen and painting each others nails. At 11:59 she switched off the t.v. and ran downstairs with her friend, running out into the Chicago streets and screaming with the rest of the world, "5, 4, 3, 2, 1, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!" They giggled and danced around running breathlessly back up into the apartment to watch the last fifteen minutes of Ellen's old stand up, The Beginning. They spent the evening like they always did, acting like little kids completely in love with the world and its little miracles...

If you'd like to JUST order that, I could probably set up a listing for you for around $3? 50 cent shipping? And to all INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, I know it says I only ship to US but if you're living anywhere outside America, comment or email me and I can definately work out the shipping. Don't hesitate to ask!
Ok, here's something cute I think all of you should DEFINATELY watch, ok?
video
Josh Groban and Ellen singing 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' as a joke, (but she's not that bad!) So adorable. Alright, well, thats about it for now. I wish everyone a magical Valentines Day, whether you be single and happy or madly in love and delighted with the world... Here are some Valentine's Dear Diary Moments and a valentines day video I made last night just for you. Clips from Juno, 30 Rock, Factory Girl, Flakes, Ellen's wedding, and the upcoming film 500 Days of Summer...

**Write yourself a love letter. Tell yourself all of the reasons why you are beautiful and lovely and absolutely adorable. I'll write you one too if you email me your address.
**Cut out pictures from magazines of people in love and wonderful clothes of pinks and reds. Make yourself a poster collage of LOVE. Frame it on your wall.
**Bake cookies and drink old fashioned Coca Cola as you listen to the songs 'Today' by Joshua Radin and 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What a Wonderful World' by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. If you want something more fast paced, try 'Stronger' by Kanye West. (Even I need some hip-hop every NOW and THEN...)

**Celebrate love. What is it that makes us love, well, Love, so much? Looking for some good chick flicks? Notting Hill, Juno, Flakes, Pretty Woman, Marie Antoinette, My Summer of Love, Ever After and The Notebook.

**Don't let NOT having a Valentine get you down. I don't have one either. Tell you what... Let's be each others valentines. Be an independent woman and embrace being free and single. Go out and party or stay home and take a bubble bath. (Don't forget the little toy fishes and pretty music...)
Happy Hearts Day everyone. Lots of love. xoxo

PS-Our school's formal dance is today, but I'm not going. I thought I'd spend Valentine's drama-free and full of art and self-love...

A long weekend and spring approaching

Oh so excited for a new week. I have bought a new black tank top with silver polka dots on it and I am ready to party it up... I have a teeny bit left to do for school tonight before I can relax and perhaps work on the zine... Speaking of which--how would you guys feel about it being an online zine? It would still be handmade, just scanned in and in PDF format... And another question: Is there a way to charge for online zines, or no? Just curious, I am new at this. But it looks oh so much better in color so far, (not done yet!), which means printing is going to be crazy expensive. WHICH means that we'd have to raise the price by alot. Meaning they wouldn't sell. Phew! So oui, I'm looking into making it an online zine....

On a lovely little note, I have been double tagged! Oh my goodness! First, sweet little Chloe has created a tag all of her own! Can you believe it? I am so honored to be chosen as one of the first fairies to answer it...

a little picture of my silly face, just for fun

describe your personal style. ok let me see. i'm a big fan of anything lace-y and pastel, vintage, used, antique accessories, indie, etsy-ebay-thrifted, and I love Converse. There is no outfit complete in my opinion without some good chucks. I'm actually not a huge fan of jeans/pants but they are all I wear mostly. Darkwash jeans rolled up at the cuffs. what are the staples in your wardrobe? My pastel pink jean jacket. Ask Chiclet. In fact, I wear it too much. And my black Chucks, haha, again. I love them. what's your signature look? Brown hair, dimples, and something pastel. :] what inspires you? Children, art, music, and photography. I've considered being a fashion photographer or a photostylist. I love the way kids can wear the craziest outfits, especially girls with their ruffles and pink-pink-PINK! I love it. So jealous. As far as music, I really love making outfits inspired by lyrics, in fact, I need to start doing that in real life and not just polyvore.com :] who is your fashion muse? i have multiple, are you ready for this? Ellen Degeneres, Tina Fey, (menswear ftw!), The Ditty Bops, my Fairy Godmother, Gala Darling, Shirley Temple, Andy Warhol, my Inspiration Diva Trish, and Edie Sedgwick. There are probably more, but I cannot think of all of them. :] favorite purchase of all time? Lets see... I really would have to say my flower crown from an antique store. I'd seen them in editorials and vintage images and ALWAYS wanted one, and then I saw a beautiful one at an antique heaven. Snatched it right up. Next to that, I'd have to say my bear mask or ribbon-print converses... biggest splurge? Definately my pink barbie typewriter, I thought it was going to cost me $6, but I forgot to add in shipping overseas.... Oops. :] what's your beauty routine? Alarm goes off at six, I wake up, make my bed, get dressed with as much effort as I can muster up that early, put on makeup, check my email, do my hair, spritz on some cake perfume and brush my teeth, slip into my converse chucks, and eat an energy bar on my way out the door to school. That, my friends, is what I call a glamourous lifestyle... what jewelry do you never take off? I actually don't wear much jewelry. I wear a lot of scarves, but as far as jewelry, there is one item I never take off and hopefully never will... My white lung cancer awareness bracelet. Both Chiclet and I have one. Our fairy godmother has lung cancer. (Possibly pray for her?) She is doing alright and we are loving her, such a fighter. She can do it. what are you wishing for? A black slip I can wear as a dress, to lose some weight, and a Betsey Johnson tea party dress. what are your obsessions? pastel colors, good music, perfume of an icing scent, mint green nail polish, cotton candy, and love.

I'd like to tag the lovely Stevanny from NotebookDoodles. (http://notebookdoodles.blogspot.com/). Such a lovely soul. Thanks Chloe! Next, my darling Lottie strawberry friend has tagged me... Cutie pie. Its called the 'four tag'...

A: Four places that I go to over and over: school, chiclet's house, thrift stores, and my dreams...
B: Four people who email me regularly: little lottie, chiclet, my inspiration diva. only three, oh so sad.
C: Four favourite smells: cupcakes baking and icing on top, spring in the midwest, big city smells, and freshly sliced oranges...
D: Four places I would rather be right now: chicago, paris, in the arms of my soulmate, and lying down in a field of wildflowers watching the clouds go by...
E: Four people I tag: Lottie at http://theteadrinkingenglishrose.blogspot.com/, Ana at http://thesearesilverwings.blogspot.com/, Sparkle at http://stardustsparkle.blogspot.com/, and Thumbelina at http://missthumbelina.blogspot.com/.
F: Four TV shows I watch: The Ellen Degeneres Show, 30 Rock, The Office, and Saturday Night Live. Thats right. :]

And GOODNESS! I have gotten an AWARD from Lottie too! Sorry sweets I had to shrink it a bit to fit it in my sidebar, but here it is in all its goodness and love...

It is absolutely a dream, as is she... Thank you sweets. I shall give it to... Oh... So difficult.
I think I shall give it to sweet Lenore... http://lenore-lolita.blogspot.com/. She is truly a delight in my little world and we are such city soulmates I cannot believe it. This is my birthday present to her. Happy Birthday Lenore! kisses and big wishes!
To the rest of you, I wish you well. So sorry this post didn't have the most substance ever... I promise, soon I will have the zine done and some fun for all. For now, here are some Dear Diary Moments! I realize I've been adbandoning them, but here they are again, back like good old times...

**Spend an evening in a bubble bath, devoting all your thoughts to what your life would be like living in a tree house.
**Search for quotes that inspire you. Now somehow make them into jewelry. Show me what you come up with... Written on brooches, embroidered onto a felt-heart necklace?
**Listen to 'Four Feet Left' by The Ditty Bops and 'Ocean Size Love' by Leigh Nash. Imaging your life in five years. If you like it, good for you. If not, start making it different.

xoxo, gum drops, sleepy dreams and butterfly kisses...
